This drive will take you to Hotel Cir. https://hotelcir.com Hotel Cir, is a simple hotel that is nestled right in the middle of the colossal Dolomite mountains and surrounded by scenic hiking routes.
The drive itself from Bolzano to this hotel offers some outstanding views and traffic so be sure, if you are the driver, to keep your eyes on the road and view the sites when you pull over. We will give you names of some pit stops along the way.
NOTE:
We used our phone’s google maps to guide us. I suggest bringing your unlocked iPhone and put a European SIM card into it.
We made this trip in the summer of 2022. I highly recommend traveling in the summer to really enjoy the hikes, beautiful weather, cows grazing the fields, wildflowers in abundance and picturesque alpine villages to make pit stops in.
Fun fact: The Dolomites are part of the Southern Limestone Alps and are known for their jagged peaks and colossal size. One night I stayed up until the full moon rose and I took a picture of it rising on the mountains. It was breathtaking. This was the second time I experienced this phenomenon known as the “Enrosadira” I was blown away by the beauty experienced in both Bolzano and viewing it on the Sassolungo Mountains.
There are so many beautiful places to visit in the Dolomites, like Lago di Carezza, Lago di Braies, Seceda, Tre Time (one of my favorites to hike around), Misurina, and Santa Magdalena. Remember, the Dolomites are not just about the physical beauty but also about enjoying the cultural experience. This region is steeped in history. If you love adventure then the Dolomites are for you. We never found them to be packed with tourists which is how we love to roll. The awe-inspiring landscapes, the outdoor activities and the cultural transmission is something you need to experience for yourself.

The Stops – The link above gives you the route we took and the stops we made along the way. Use it as a guide but make the trip your own. These are just some suggestions and ones I thought were worthy of visiting.
-
- FIRST STOP: Ortisei to visit Seceda from Col Raiser via the cable car. Get the Gardena Card and make your way up. We bought a three day multiple ride pass. It was SO WORTH IT throughout our time in the Val Gardena area as a break from hiking. It was roughly 75 Euros a person which can be expensive but knowing we were going to cover a lot of the area it made sense for us. Of course we used the heck out of it instead of driving everywhere. The cable cars are well connected and used throughout out the area. Taking the cable car, once on top you will feel as if you are on top of the world. Hike the trails and just take in every moment. Make sure to stop by Malga/Alm-Schwaige PIERALONGIA. for some tasty treats, coffee and homemade sodas.
- NOTE: We took about four hours to hike the trails and take in the sites. I could not get over the views!!!!!
-
- SECOND STOP: Lunch down the road https://www.gardenahotels.com/it/ristoranti/medel/
- THIRD STOP: Viewing place Parcheggio Parkplatz and Passo Gardena Mountain View Points. You will see them along the way and have plenty of time to pull over, park and take in the sites.
