In my opinion, there’s nothing more enjoyable than traveling—whether it’s exploring new corners of our own country or venturing abroad. Discovering different cultures, cuisines, and drinks brings us endless joy. With that passion in mind, we always plan general itineraries when we travel—ones that go beyond just sightseeing. Our plans often include unique restaurants and cafés, farmers markets, cozy coffee or tea shops, cocktail bars, and local breweries.
One of our favorite things? Popping into local grocery stores just to see the fun and unusual items we’d never find back home in the U.S. More often than not (actually, almost always now), we end up leaving with one or two interesting ingredients to bring back with us. Using them in our home-cooked meals makes the dishes feel so much more authentic—it’s like a little piece of the trip lives on through our food.
All of this is part of what we love—the thrill of the experience, the chase, the immersion. We do it all, and we do it at our own pace. Whether it’s hiking, biking, walking, taking public transportation, or visiting historical sites and museums—we soak in as much as we can.
So go. Go see it all.
EAT:
This is what we love to do. After all, who doesn’t appreciate a good meal crafted by hands that carry generations of love and tradition in their cuisine?
We’re all about stepping outside the box—seeking out those hidden gems the locals are lining up for. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of wandering through a new town and stumbling upon a cozy little restaurant, a buzzing food truck, or a humble street stall. The kind of place that makes you stop in your tracks and say, “We have to try this.”
Ambience plays a huge part in the experience, too. If a place draws you in—go in. Check out the menu, watch the dishes coming out of the kitchen, feel the energy of the room. Sure, we do our homework—we read food blogs, dig through Google reviews, scroll through social media—but some of our best food memories come from the unplanned, spontaneous finds. The “off the beaten path” spots that end up blowing us away.
We’re drawn to unique styles of food and love immersing ourselves in the local food scene wherever we go. For us, it’s like a game—a delicious adventure. If you’re like us and love food, travel, and fun discoveries, then come along for the ride. Follow our journey, check out the amazing places we’ve uncovered, and hopefully, you’ll get to enjoy them too.
With that… Let’s Eat!
DRINK:
A good bourbon, a well-made Negroni, a glass of wine, or champagne on the beach… oh, how we love our drinks. Of course, water is essential—we drink plenty of that too—but there’s something special about enjoying the right drink at the right moment. Even a cold, local beer can hit just right when you’re soaking in the atmosphere of a new place.
Drinks around the world often have a distinct identity—flavors, ingredients, presentation, and rituals that reflect the culture they come from. And no, I’m not talking about “drinking around the world” at Epcot (though that can be fun too). I’m talking about diving into the real drinking cultures across the globe—experiences that reveal so much more than what’s in the glass.
Some of my favorite discoveries have come from simple conversations with bartenders while sitting at the bar. That’s where I’ve learned about regional aperitifs, local spirits, and creative cocktails I’d never have found otherwise. Drinking, when done mindfully, can be a beautiful way to connect with a place and its people. It tells you something about tradition, about hospitality, about how people gather and celebrate.
And sometimes, it’s as simple as a club soda with a splash of fresh juice from a fruit tree growing just outside the door. Trust me, there’s a story behind that tree too.
Whatever your drink of choice, we’re excited to share some of our favorite sips and spots from our travels. So come along, raise a glass, and discover the flavors with us.
With that… Let’s Drink!
PLAY:
We can’t live our lives as all work and no play. Life is too short not to get outside and explore—whether it’s the world or just your own city or country.
Back in the 1970s, my mom used to pile all four of us kids—and all our luggage—into the family’s wood-paneled station wagon. Every summer, we’d hit the road, touring across the United States, stopping at iconic landmarks and monuments on our way to visit family. Looking back, I think that’s where my love for adventure, travel, and just getting out theretruly began.
Sure, I played sports, hung out with neighborhood friends, and even dabbled in piano—but nothing compared to those summer road trips. Sliding into that old station wagon meant a new adventure was beginning, and I lived for it.
Then, in 1985, everything changed. I had the opportunity to travel abroad for a month during the summer between my junior and senior year of high school. That trip opened my eyes in ways I’ll never forget. I realized there was so much more to the world than just my own country. I was fascinated by the people I met, their culture, their way of life—so different from mine, yet so enriching.
I was in awe of it all: the architecture, the food, the forests, the languages, the pace of life. That trip lit a fire in me—a deep curiosity and desire to explore, roam, and play that has never gone away.
Now, I can’t wait to share some of those experiences with you—along with the general itineraries and special moments from the places we’ve been.
So with that… Let’s Play
Sharing our general itineraries with you:
We all travel differently, each with our own style and purpose—so think of this blog as a flexible guide, not a rigid itinerary. This isn’t a full-scale travel company (not yet, at least!), and we’re not here to take you by the hand every step of the way. Instead, we want to offer suggestions, ideas, and inspiration for your own adventures.
We put a lot of time into researching our destinations, and we’ve had some incredible experiences—ones we believe are worth sharing. Our hope is that you can use what we’ve discovered to shape your own journey, whether you’re planning something big or just need a spark of inspiration for your next weekend getaway.
We’re currently working on a Detailed Digital Booklet that will outline exact routes and stops for those of you who want to follow in our footsteps. But until that’s ready, feel free to explore the posts here and use whatever works best for you. Take what you need, skip what doesn’t fit your vibe, and roam with intention.
Each post will include as much helpful info as possible—from places to go and things to see, to what to wear, eat, and drink along the way. Just a heads-up: while we always make time for the must-see tourist highlights, we also love veering off the beaten path after the first day or two. That’s often where the real magic happens.
So whether you’re a planner or a wanderer, we’re glad you’re here. Let’s go Roaming for Adventure—just like we do.
Have fun Eat, Drink and Play around the world.
